As a trainee, I gained experience across four different placements, working with all genders and a myriad of presenting issues. I was exposed to a variety of life stories and began to understand what I felt most drawn to.
One of my placements, was with a Women’s charity in York, and it was through this work, that I began to develop a love of working with women. The charity are very passionate about women empowering women, and this felt very important to me. After three years volunteering and working alongside women, both colleagues and in the counselling room, I felt a strong sense of purpose and togetherness.
I now specialise in working with women and women’s issues. I have a wide range of experience and training, in issues such as anxiety, stress, relationships issues, bullying, neurodiversity, identity, loss and grief. I work with people pleasing and procrastination, aswell as complete overwhelm, due to women juggling so much and their needs not being met. Issues such as menopause, infertility, self esteem and a sense of what we “should” be doing, come up often in the counselling room. I work with infidelity, mother/daughter relationships, childhood issues and parenting. Women might feel unhappy and have a sense of loss of what might have been or feel a lack of direction. These are just a few of the issues that I have worked with...
It feels very important that I create a safe space for women to feel truly heard and to enable our therapeutic relationship to grow. It is very much a collaborative approach, as we look at patterns, challenge situations, look at boundary setting and build on coping tools.
I feel a strong sense of being by the side of women in the counselling room as we come together to find a pathway through.
I love working alongside women and I do this in a variety of settings :-
Walk and talk counselling - in several locations in and around York - nature can be so soothing and no eye contact can feel comfortable.
Face to face counselling - in my lovely central York room or my cosy Clifton Moor counselling room.
Alternatively Zoom or Telephone Counselling.
I offer a free 20 min chat.
